This is a really simple task: on each trial, you will see a number displaying how much money you may win if you do the task correctly. After a short delay three circles appear on the screen and you must indicate which circle is different with a button press. You are required to do the task quite fast that is why you will do a 1 minute training session before the beginning of the real task.

You will perform one 27 minute long block of a simple task which consists of individual trials in which you can win money.

At the beginning of each trial you will see the amount of money, in pence, that you can win. After a short delay, you will see three circles that each contain a smaller circle inside. As soon as you see the 3 circles you have half a second to indicate with the three arrows on the keyboard (left, down, right) which circle is different from the other two. If you press more than one key, the computer will consider the trial incorrect.

Example of the trial task

If you do this task correctly you will win the amount of money that you were offered, otherwise you will get no money. You will get one of the following messages:

  1. "You have won __" if you did the task correctly
  2. "Too Late" or
  3. "Wrong!".

After a short delay the next trial will begin.

At the end of the experiment 5% of the trials will be randomly selected and you will be paid what you won in those trials (minimum £5 and maximum £15).
